Doctor Who (part 6)

“I didn’t appear to be hurrying there, did I? But that deceptively easy gait of mine covers the ground at an amazing speed.” Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor in The Trial of the Time Lord

It is unconscionable that the council of Time Lords
would subject me to such indignities. I am the Doctor,
the Lord, High President of Gallifray.
At least I was until they kicked me out of office.

I don’t see why they ever tried to force the job
on me in the first place. Ever since I left Gallifrey,
I have been their errand boy and punching bag.
My Second Incarnation was also put on trial. My Third was exiled.
The Fourth was sent on a mission to destroy the Daleks
before they were even born. Is it any wonder that my last Incarnation
ran away from them again? The Time Lords never cared about me.

Now here I am again, on trial-
for things I haven’t even done yet;
but based on what I’ve seen,
I’ll certainly do them when I get the chance.

I don’t understand why I can’t just live my life.
Sure I interfere with the course of history,
but that doesn’t make me wrong. I am the Doctor,
and I just happen to turn up where and when I am needed.
It’s not my fault I’m so good at what I do.

Doctor Who (part 4)

“You may be a doctor, but I am the Doctor, the definite article.” Tom Baker as the Doctor in “Robot.”

You are still young, Romana,
only one regeneration,
but once you’ve worn a few faces,
it’s hard not to think about the end from time to time.

Romana?
Right, she stayed behind in E-space.
Sarah Jane?
No, I dropped her off in South Croydon.
Well, listen up, whoever you are.

When my time comes,
I think I will miss my scarf
the most. Jelly Babies are great,
and I certainly had the most wonderful robot dog
in the universe, but there is nothing so magnificent
as this hand-made scarf
from the hands of Madame Nostredamus.

I doubt my next incarnation will wear it.
I’m certainly not running around in a bow tie or a cape,
not that there’s anything wrong with that,
but it’s not who I am at the moment.

It’s no fun thinking about my end,
but it is fun to think about those future me’s.
What will I look like and how will I act?
What strange adventures wait in our future?

I may never know the answer
unless some strange twist of fate
allows us to cross paths down the road.
I’ve met myself before, so it’s not completely out of the question.

Doctor Who (part 3)

“What do you think about my new face, by the way. I wasn’t too sure about it myself to begin with. It sort of grows on you. It’s flexible you know. Could be useful on the planet Delphon where they communicate with their eye brows. That’s strange, how on earth did I remember that?” Jon Pertwee as the Doctor in “The Spearhead from Space.” (1970)

Figuring out who you are can be hard
especially if you’ve just regenerated.
It starts with seeing your face for the first time,
and you think, “That’s not me.
The hair’s a mess, and what’s up with that nose?”

Then you smile a little and you realize that smile is quite pleasant.”
That’s when you recognize yourself
and think, “That will do nicely.”

It’s time for something different.
I am not the old man,
and I will not play the clown any more.

A distinctive face demands a distinctive man-
a man of action.
There’s no need to run, no need to play tricks
when I can take a more direct approach.

I can’t remember how to operate the T.A.R.D.I.S.
but I remember learning to truly see the world
from a hermit on a desolate hill. I learned boxing
from the pros. I learned Venusian Kung Fu
at some point too, but when?

The Time Lords may have changed my face.
They may have exiled me to one time,
one planet, but I will not let that stop me
from getting back to where I am supposed to be-
exploring the universe.

Doctor Who (part 2)

“All these evils I have fought while you have done nothing but observe.  True, I am guilty of interference, just as you are guilty of failing to use your great powers to help those in need.”  Patrick Troughton as Dr. Who in The War Games (1969)

I did not expect to face the end and the beginning again so soon.
It is the hazard I suppose of wanting to save the day.
I was not content to watch eternity
pass me by. Not willing to merely watch the evils
that happened in the universe. We have the power
to make a difference and we need to do something
to make it better…

and I have done my part.
Daleks, Cybermen, Yeti, and the like
have all tried to end my time, yet it was my own people
who took this life from me.

Have you seen my recorder? I left it someplace
around here. You can’t miss it. I’m sorry, but old tricks
die hard, just like a Time Lord.

Seriously, though have you seen it?
I play the clown, but after all I went through in my first life, I needed a change.

Oh my giddy aunt, how it makes my head spin to think
of that life as a grumpy old man. So much time wasted.
It’s not our fault. The Time Lords held us back,
and now they are at it again. Exile is not the worst news,
I was an exile already by choice, but to lose my friends
and to be trapped on one world…

A choice of faces that are not mine-
too young, too old, too fat-those will never do.
I just wish there was some way to stop this change.
Find Jamie and Zoe and get back into the universe,
or maybe check in on Susan like I promised her
once upon a time. Hopefully I will in the future,
but who knows who I will become next?

Doctor Who poem (from the perspective of the First Doctor)

“You wanted advice you said—I never give it, never.  But I might just say this to you: always search for truth.  My truth is in the stars and yours is here.” William Hartnell as Dr Who in The Daleks (1963)

Susan was always so proud of that name.
It was her idea and they took it from her.
They are adept at pinching what they want.
